Session 1

Police Cadet Academy

Study Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement

Cadets will be immersed in the myriad of law enforcement career opportunities while experiencing this simulated police academy. Courses will be taught by seasoned law enforcement officers as well as trainers from the San Joaquin Delta College Police Academy. This two-week program is for anyone interested in the criminal justice field, whether they are thinking of getting a criminal justice degree here at Pacific, attending the Delta College Academy to become a police officer or are interested in other law enforcement careers like becoming a dispatcher or crime scene investigator.

Courses will focus on the ethical and impartial enforcement of the law, where students can use the skills they have learned in real-life scenarios. Cadets will participate in the physical fitness areas of an Academy and be tested on their agility in these areas. Instruction will include constitutional and criminal laws, vehicle codes, radio use, dispatching, safe driving, traffic stops, evidence collection and arrest procedures. Cadets in this academy will enjoy their time learning and their camaraderie with other cadets. They will graduate more confident with a knowledge of law enforcement careers and what it takes to obtain them.

Curriculum

Students will learn what it is like to attend a police academy, including the courses of study, physical exertion, personal safety and dealing with stressful situations. They will gain an introductory understanding of the laws and procedures of police work. They will graduate confident in their ability to negotiate critical situations.

Students will attend classes on law, powers of arrest, self-defense, safe driving and evidence collection. They will then use this knowledge in practical situations where role players make scenarios feel like real-life. Simulated vehicle stops and handling irate persons are just a couple of the examples they will learn to handle.
