Music Industry

Produce and Perform

Explore the world of sound design, recording, publishing, licensing and other dimensions that drive America’s $900 billion creative sector economy. The music industry program is a two-week music summer camp based at Pacific’s recording studios and taught by the university’s renowned Conservatory of Music faculty.

Under the guidance of Pacific alumni, faculty and established music industry professionals (announcements coming soon!), music industry students at Pacific’s Summer High School Institute will experience and be immersed in the process of creating, producing, releasing and performing a song in the public space.

The music industry program is intended for students interested in recording, producing, performing or composing original songs in a recording studio setting. Previous musical experience is not required but will be helpful.

Week One
The Creative Process

In week one, students will learn key elements of the creative process in contemporary songwriting, performing, production, recording, lyricism and creative image branding. Between creative production sessions, students will learn about key music business functions and meet with established music industry professionals in live Q&A sessions.

Week Two
The Release Process

In week two, students will learn key music business and marketing functions to prepare a song for worldwide release and live performances. Between sessions, students will meet with established music industry professionals in live Q&A sessions. 

Closing Ceremonies
Present Your Work

At the Summer Institute closing ceremonies, students will have the option either to present an audio recording, music video or business/marketing plan or to perform a song created during the program.

Pacific’s Creative Facilities

University of the Pacific provides the latest in music production and recording studio gear from Apple, Ableton, Avid, Arturia, Adobe and more. In the Owen Hall Recording Studio, Computer Lab and Video/Beats Studio, Summer Institute students will create in Logic, Ableton Live, ProTools, Sibelius, Adobe Creative Suite and more.

In addition to serving as a faculty member at University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music, Joshua is currently Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Unlimited Sounds Publishing & Distribution. He brings experience working with independent record labels, music publishers, and entrepreneurs on Music Row in Nashville, and a thorough understanding of the strategies, tools and resources available in the rapidly developing new media and digital marketing industries to the classroom.
