Explore the Different Fields in Healthcare

Are you thinking you might want a career in the health sciences, but are unsure about the multiple career pathways available to you? Come and discover the various programs in Pacific's newest school, the School of Health Sciences.  

Students will have the opportunity to experience courses taught by Pacific faculty in the areas of nursing, physician assistant studies, clinical nutrition, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, athletic training, audiology and physical therapy. Lectures and hands-on learning activities will allow students to envision themselves as the healthcare professionals of the future.

Curriculum

Students will discover what a day in the life of a healthcare worker might be, as seen through the lens of multiple disciplines. Using team-based learning approaches, students will learn how each discipline offers a unique contribution to the well-being of a patient.

Planned Topics

During the two-week program, students can expect to:

  • Speak to graduate students from various health disciplines about what drew them to their respective fields
  • Identify the scopes of practice of multiple health disciplines
  • Learn about the educational requirements and pre-requisite coursework required to enter each distinct health field
  • Discover steps in the path toward licensure as well as the types of field experiences (practicum coursework) students can expect in their educational journey

Dr. Derek Isetti, PhD, CCC-SLP, heads the Department of Speech-Language Pathology in the School of Health Sciences. He studies the occupational impact of voice disorders and teaches coursework at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
