University statement on March 19 events

The university reports that the event sponsored by registered student group, Turning Point USA (TPUSA) at Pacific, proceeded as planned on Wednesday, March 19. 139 people were reported as having attended. Approximately 120 protestors demonstrated outside of the venue during the event. At one point, the building lost some power and amplified sound. The event continued until power was restored minutes later. The university is investigating the cause of the power outage.

At the same time, students, staff and faculty came together for a separate event, called the LGBTQ+ Summit “There’s More to Us,” which was hosted at the Center for Identity and Inclusion. That event drew a crowd of more than 150 people.

The community successfully engaged in dialog, and we are proud of our community and our students for tackling difficult issues.
