Pacific launches student shuttle to popular shopping destinations
Students at University of the Pacific have a new transportation option for visiting their favorite shopping destinations in Stockton with the launch of the Pacific Shuttle.
The 20-passenger shuttle launching April 6 will include stops at the Target on Pacific Avenue, the Miracle Mile, Sherwood Place and Lincoln Center. Learn more about the diverse shopping and dining destinations available in Stockton.
The shuttle service is a collaboration between ASuop (the governing student body) and the Division of Student Life.
“This was a big initiative for ASuop because we really want students to engage with the Stockton community,” said ASuop President Angel Zhong '23. “Exploring the city really enhances students’ educational journey, so we’re excited to have this new option.”
The shuttle will make hourly round trips to the designated locations to pick up and drop off students from 4–8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays during the month of April. The spring shuttle service will serve as a pilot program to determine how often to run it in the future.
“By fall we have high hopes that transportation options will exist for students to not only shop for the basics and socialize at local restaurants, but also to participate in community service through the Volunteer Center and support faculty that wish to take classes out and about to enhance the learning environment,” said Vice President for Student Life Maria Blandizzi.
To ride the complimentary shuttle, students just need to show their Pacific IDs to the driver. The shuttle is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pacific has strong partnerships with area shopping districts, including the Miracle Mile—a stretch of businesses on Pacific Avenue and Harding Way. Dozens of businesses offer a 10% discount to students who show their PacificCard. A list of participating merchants is available on the PacificCard site.
"This is a great opportunity," said Kim Byrd ’91, executive director of the Miracle Mile Improvement District and Pacific alumna. "We're excited to have the students down here because we have a lot we can offer them. It's not a far walk from campus and now the shuttle makes it even easier to visit."
