“I am beyond proud of our dedicated faculty and staff for how they applied their creativity and innovation to find such engaging ways to conduct their labs and lectures remotely,”

As the start of the fall semester approaches, University of the Pacific’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECPE) finished assembling lab kits for their students. These kits, which supply necessary lab equipment such as logic analyzers, multimeters and test leads, will bring Pacific’s hands-on-learning environment to students’ homes.

“I am beyond proud of our dedicated faculty and staff for how they applied their creativity and innovation to find such engaging ways to conduct their labs and lectures remotely,” said Steven Howell, Dean for the School of Engineering and Computer Science. “While I am disappointed that we could not all be working with our students in person this semester, I am confident that students will continue to have engaging learning experiences due to the creativity and dedication of our faculty.”

Mark Forman, the electronic technician for SOECS, spent the last three weeks ordering the equipment. Each of the ECPE labs have a separate kit made for them where students will be utilizing a virtual simulation environment instead.

Students will use these kits in their Advanced Digital Design course to learn how to analyze, design and implement synchronous state machines using programmable logic devices. They will also be utilized to help some students design and implement digital monitoring and control systems using micro-controllers in other courses

Electrical and Computer Engineering is just one of many Pacific departments finding creative ways to conduct labs virtually this fall. Be sure to follow University of the Pacific across social media to stay up to date on the many innovative ways we are staying connected during the fall semester.
