University of the Pacific’s men’s tennis program will be one of 14 institutions in the nation to host Universal Tennis Rating Pro Tennis Tour tournaments in 2025.

Pacific will host multiple professional tournaments on campus beginning Feb. 10 throughout the 2025 calendar year.

The Pro Tennis Tour circuit is a global professional tennis tour, live streamed through Amazon Prime, that provides opportunities for elite level competition. The tournaments will draw players from around the world who seek to compete in a high-level, guaranteed match play format with prize money. Last year, several institutions hosted tournaments with prize pools of $25,000.

“We could not be more excited to be announced as one of the host sites for Universal Tennis Rating’s Professional Tennis Tour,” said men’s tennis head coach and 2024 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year Robin Goodman “It will not only attract talent to our campus but also will provide a fantastic opportunity for our current team to get elite matches at home and will have a positive impact on our campus and the community.”.

Pacific was one of two West Coast Conference schools to be announced as hosts along with Pepperdine. The other 12 institutions include Arizona, Baylor, Cal, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Miami, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC and Wake Forest.

Through these new partnerships, programs, coaches and athletes will continue to reap the benefits.”

Tournament results will count toward UTR ratings, a system that rates all players regardless of age, gender or geography. A player's rating is calculated based upon whom they play as opposed to how many tournaments they've been able to travel to and win points in.

“For me, this opportunity to play the Pro Tennis Tour on our home courts means a lot. It’s an excellent opportunity to have high-quality matches and at the same time save a little money to be able to invest into my professional career after college,” said Tiago Silva ’26.

A UTR rating is considered one of the best measurement tools used in college tennis and is used for recruiting by almost all coaches in the United States. With the addition of Universal Tennis Rating tournaments on college campuses, more matches will count toward player’s ratings.

Pacific will begin its 2025 team schedule Wednesday, Jan. 22 when it faces Prairie View A&M University on a neutral court in Waco, Texas. The first home match is Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Tigers host UC San Diego at 11 a.m. at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
