McGeorge School of Law to host Annual Michael Belote Capital Center Lecture on current political landscape

University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law's Capital Center for Law & Policy will host the annual Michael Belote Capital Center Lecture Series on Tuesday, April 1 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Citizen Hotel in downtown Sacramento. This year’s lecture, entitled “Division, Distrust & Deliberation: American Democracy in Transition,” will focus on governmental institutions in the current political landscape.
This year's lecture will bring together legal scholars, political consultants, journalists, and experts to discuss the current challenges and opportunities governmental institutions are dealing with. The moderated conversation will be followed by a hosted reception. The event is free and open to the public.
"In the unprecedented political times in which we find ourselves, it felt particularly important to focus on the continuing role of governmental institutions in a shifting political landscape from both an academic and policy perspective,” said Erin O’Neal, Director of the Capital Center for Law & Policy.
The evening's topics include voter distrust of governmental institutions, elections, and politicians; the administrative state post-Chevron and its effects on rule making discretion for federal agencies; the new lens for evaluating government appointees; and issues related to reducing the federal government and federal workforce.
