Three years ago, Kevin Huber was named chair of the University of the Pacific Board of Regents. As he prepares to step down July 1, he leaves Pacific with a strong foundation, which has prepared the university for continued success. During his tenure on the board he helped the university more than double its endowment, reach 85% of its comprehensive fundraising campaign goal, recruit President Designate Christopher Callahan, create a university-wide strategic plan and launch a new School of Health Sciences.

However, to say that Huber’s time has been marked by challenges and change would be an understatement. The COVID-19 crisis disrupted the university in unprecedented ways and he was there to help guide Pacific through operational and financial challenges. In addition, his focus remained on helping provide students the support and resources they needed to succeed. Through his leadership, the Board of Regents approved new funding for a COVID-19 Relief Grant, which helped ease the significant financial burdens many students face.

"I want to thank Kevin for his tremendous years of service and accomplishments on the board," said Maria Pallavicini, interim president. "Pacific has been through many transformations during this time.  His resilience to each challenge we’ve faced has strengthened our university and allowed us to continue to provide the same high-quality education and Pacific experience that we are known for."

Huber joined Pacific’s Board of Regents in 2011. He served as vice chair from 2015 to 2017 and was treasurer from 2014 to 2015. Huber also served as chair of the Finance and Facilities Committee from 2014 to 2016 and has played a key role on committees related to housing, strategic planning, enrollment and faculty compensation, among others.

A lifelong San Joaquin County resident, he and his family have enduring connections to Pacific. He is a graduate of Pacific’s Eberhardt School of Business; his mother was also a Pacific graduate, and his father-in-law, Fritz Grupe, is a former regent. In addition, Huber served on Eberhardt’s Advisory Board from 1997–2006 and guest lectured at Eberhardt for Founder's Day.

"The board simply could not feel more positive about the job Kevin has done," stated Norman Allen, incoming chair of the Board of Regents. "He cares deeply about this university, and I appreciate his commitment and dedication to Pacific.”

Huber is president and CEO of the Grupe Huber Company, which manages and owns approximately 1 million square feet of commercial office and retail space. He has served on the boards of numerous civic, charitable, advisory and professional organizations and foundations, including the San Joaquin Partnership and the Young Presidents' Organization. He and his wife Sandy have also been long-time community supporters, giving countless hours to many of the non-profits and organizations that have made Stockton successful.

"Pacific plays a pivotal role in Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco, helping thousands of students earn a degree, generating increased earnings to the local, regional and statewide economy and providing a pipeline of talent to meet workforce needs," said Huber. "When I joined to board, I did not really understand the breadth of this great university and all that it does, the lives it changes, and all of the incredible people it takes to fulfill our mission. It truly is inspiring."
