Defining legacy: Pacific Magazine 2024 highlights groundbreaking moments
From nights under the stars to nights under the stadium lights, 2024 has been full of groundbreaking moments at University of the Pacific. These moments, and much more, are explored in depth in the latest issue of the award-winning Pacific Magazine.
The newest edition features compelling stories, including an alumnus who took home bronze at the Olympics, the impact of music therapy and innovative collaborations in the classroom.
Now on its way to students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and others around the world, Pacific Magazine highlights the achievements of the past year while celebrating the defining moments from the last 100 years since Pacific’s move to Stockton.
“Pacific Magazine is one of the most powerful ways to connected with our community of Tigers,” said Chief Communication Officer Sallie Poggi. “The writing and design of the magazine is world-class. The magazine has become a collectable piece of Pacific that our audiences covet and look forward to each year.”
2024 was a landmark year of growth and expansion for Pacific, and that is a continued theme as the publication expands what it means to offer a digital component to the print magazine. This year, a first-of-its-kind interactive version of the magazine is available online.
The immersive experience allows users to not only read about what’s happening at Pacific but invites them to become part of the story. The digital iteration includes exclusive content curated by Pacific’s Office of Strategic Communications, incorporating photos, videos and audio elements.
The experience is unlike any the office has previously produced, says Ryan Walters, senior director of digital communications.
“This project is paving new ground for storytelling as a discipline at Pacific,” Walters said. “Nothing like this has ever been done before out of this office or out of this institution; nothing comes remotely close to this. The stories that we are telling in Pacific Magazine and with these two features in the digital version are stories of future, progress and rising to new heights.”
The digital version, called Pacific Magazine Interactive, explores the hands-on opportunities available to physics and astronomy students in the “Space to Explore” feature. Students are able to conduct research alongside their professors, who are part of national and international teams making breakthrough discoveries on galaxy formation and evolution. Users can immerse themselves in their findings on the interactive online platform.
Pacific Magazine Interactive also includes an immersive timeline, “Bold from the Start,” showing University of the Pacific’s rich history in Stockton. Readers can explore Pacific’s ongoing legacy in the Central Valley through a timeline of notable events, from the moment Burns Tower was completed in 1964 to the arrival of the World Wide Web in 1995.
Students and alumni are invited to add themselves into the timeline, claiming their spot in Pacific history with an entry that can be shared to social media.
