Athletics highlights top five moments from fall 2024

From first place titles in men’s golf to a winning run at water polo championships and record-breaking seasons for student-athletes Alexa Edwards ’24 and Tiago Silva ’26, Pacific Athletics exemplified the Tiger spirit in fall 2024.

Here are the top five moments from an extraordinary season:

Men's Water Polo

Men’s water polo celebrated their 2024 West Coast Conference regular season title after clinching at the Eberhardt Aquatics Center with a 14-8 win over Pepperdine.

At the forefront was the West Coast Conference regular season champion men’s water polo squad. The Tigers put together an 18-2 season including a perfect 6-0 mark in league play to win their third championship in three seasons, which included a pair of Golden Coast Conference titles.

The 2024 Tigers went on to earn five All-Conference selections in addition to Player of the Year Mihailo Vukazic ’25, Newcomer of the Year Oliver Fodor ’24 and Coach of the Year James Graham.

Men’s golf awarded the first-place trophy at the Leadership & Gold Collegiate Championship in Seaside, California. It was their second first-place showing of the fall.

The men’s golf team won a pair of tournament titles this fall. Prior to this year, the Tigers hadn’t won a tournament since 2014. Carlos Astiazaran ’27 and Travis Robbie ’26 claimed back-to-back individual titles for Pacific, winning at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational Oct. 14-16 and the Leadership & Gold Collegiate Championship at Saint Mary’s Oct. 21-23, respectively. It was the first time the Tigers garnered an individual champion since 2018.

A record-breaking season came from Alexa Edwards ’24 from the volleyball program who became the all-time leader in kills in both Pacific and West Coast Conference history with 1,940. Edwards went on to earn All-America Honorable Mention honors after being named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year.

She guided the volleyball program to its fourth consecutive postseason appearance as the Tigers knocked off Weber State 3-2 in the first round of the 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship. Edwards became the first All-American at Pacific since 2014.

Tiago Silva

Tiago Silva ’26 represented the Pacific men’s tennis program at the NCAA Individual Championships, becoming just the second Tiger to every qualify for the tournament.

A historic individual effort also came from men’s tennis where Tiago Silva ’26 became the second student-athlete in school history to reach the National Collegiate Athletic Association Individual Championships. He competed in Waco, Texas Nov. 19 where he went to three sets with the sixth-seeded player in the country from TCU.

Silva qualified after making a run to the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Conference Masters Championship in Rome, Georgia Nov. 7-10. Silva was the lone representative from the West Coast Conference in the singles draw and won four matches in three days.

Men's Soccer

Men’s soccer celebrated after their 3-1 victory on Nov. 16 over Saint Mary’s on Senior Night at Knoles Field.

A memorable moment came on the pitch where the men’s soccer program ended its season on a high note with a 3-1 victory over Saint Mary’s on Senior Night Nov. 16 at Knoles Field. The Tigers tallied goals from Jorge Galvan ’25, Matteo Carbone ’26 and Kai Sullivan ’24 after honoring nine seniors in a pre-game ceremony. Pacific finished the year with back-to-back wins after knocking off Gonzaga 2-0 on the road Nov. 9.

Pacific will look to carry momentum into the spring with seven sports soon getting underway including baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, beach volleyball, track and women’s water polo. Men’s and women’s basketball, swim and golf seasons continue their seasons into 2025.
