The Department of Endodontics at University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry received a generous show of support from the American Association of Endodontics (AAE) Foundation through a $100,000 Endowed Faculty Matching Grant to support the Dugoni School's Ronald F. Borer Endowment for Endodontics.

The impact of the gift will be doubled to a total of $200,000 through $100,000 in additional funds provided by University of the Pacific's Powell Match program, which matches qualifying new endowment gifts on a 1:1 basis.

Three representatives from the AAE Foundation recently visited the Dugoni School to present a check, tour the school and clinical facilities, and visit with residents, faculty and staff. The guests on the January 18 visit were AAE Foundation President Dr. Peter Morgan, AAE Foundation Treasurer Kirk Coury and AAE Foundation Director of Development Alyson Hall.

"This generous grant to the Endodontic Department will enable us to meet our mission and commitment to providing the finest in endodontic education to both our dental students and advanced residents," said Alan H. Gluskin, DDS, professor and co-chair of the Endodontic Department. "The Foundation for Endodontics has ensured that the teaching and mentoring of future endodontists, as well as dentists within our profession, will remain strong at Pacific and meet the educational, research and advancement goals of our esteemed specialty of Endodontics."

"Combined with the additional funds from the Powell Match, this donation has turned into a powerful showcase of philanthropy that will sustain our vision for excellence in endodontic education."

The purpose of the grant is to strengthen endodontic education by ensuring that endodontics is taught by endodontists, and helping make the specialty visible and well represented in dental schools. The endowed faculty matching grants are open to any U.S. or Canadian dental school that is accredited by or has a reciprocal agreement with the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, and that is seeking to endow a permanent academic or research position in endodontics.

The Foundation for Endodontics seeks to improve oral health by securing contributions, shepherding resources and sharing grant funds that support research, generate new knowledge and enhance endodontic education. For more details, visit www.aae.org/foundation.

The Dugoni School's 27-month Advanced Education Program in Endodontology provides in-depth clinical training built on a solid foundation of biomedical science. Working in a collegial atmosphere of mutual respect, residents receive training from expert faculty members from across the United States and abroad. The rigorous curriculum is a combination of didactic courses, strong clinical experience and research; residents are expected to complete 250 cases spanning all areas of contemporary endodontic therapy including surgical endodontics.
