A zine is a small, self-published work of original or repurposed art and writing, often used for self-expression, activism, or creativity, stemming from counterculture, punk, feminism, and political movements. The event is open to students, staff, faculty, and Stockton community. Supplies and snacks will be provided! Location: Black Student Services Lounge, 2nd Floor McCaffrey (Near the Grove) ABOUT THE FACILITATOR: Eliza is a queer artist from Stockton, California, whose work encompasses poetry, zines, a short discography of folk music from 2018, and visual art. Since 2012, Eliza has participated in slam poetry, notably as a member of the 2015 Brave New Voices team, supported by With Our Words and mentored by Tama Brisbane. Currently, they serve as a Youth Coordinator for Little Manila Rising, focusing on community service and advocacy. Their work often explores themes of fat liberation, reclaiming spaces, childhood trauma, and transforming mental health stigmas into avenues for conversation. They currently facilitate a bi-weekly zine club at Tuleburg Press where they teach how to make zines, copy them, and distribute them to local artists.
