The Conservatory of Music is excited to present Pacific Orchestras concert in collaboration with the Black History Month at University of the Pacific.
Pacific’s Dr. Brittany Trotter performs Carlos Simon‘s "Movements for Flute and Orchestra." Simon, a living Black-identifying composer, holds the Composer Chair with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and is composer-in-residence with the Kennedy Center.
The concert, including works by Jennifer Higdon and Alberto Ginastera, concludes with William Grant Still’s path-setting “Afro-American Symphony” (1930). Still is widely regarded as “the Dean of Afro-American Composers.”
Dr. Michael Alexander, Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, guest-conducts Pacific Orchestras.
