Mission

To promote an environment in which all students feel welcome and achieve their academic potential, the CTL empowers faculty to develop their teaching practices in learner-centered, evidence-informed, equity-minded ways. We nurture a community that supports collaboration and facilitates reflection on pedagogical goals and strategies.

Our core services include:

  • Engaging in peer observations of teaching, at the request of the faculty member to be observed
  • Collaborating with committees, departments, programs, and academic units to develop programs tailored to their needs
  • Developing on-demand resources
  • Delivering guest lectures for undergraduate and graduate classes on teaching-related topics

Cory Davia

Educational Developer

Cory works with faculty of all disciplines — in individual consultations, classroom observations, and in a workshop setting — to support their pedagogical practice and reflect on their pedagogical goals. He also facilitates the Student Observational Partners program, aimed at bringing together students’ and faculty’s different bases of knowledge and experience to promote learner-centered teaching decisions. Before coming to Pacific, he taught philosophy at Claremont McKenna College, where his research focused on the role of conscious reflection in human agency. As a member of the Pacific CTL team, he’s particularly interested in exploring authentic and equitable methods of assessment, as well as ways of supporting students as they develop intellectual virtues like curiosity, open-mindedness, and intellectual tenacity.
