Basketball watch parties bring fans together for exciting matchups

fans watch an athletic event broadcast in The Lair

Students, faculty, staff, alumni and fans don’t need to miss a single minute of action when Pacific’s basketball teams are on the road; watch parties will be held on the Stockton Campus to cheer on the Tigers as they visit Brigham Young, Pepperdine, Gonzaga and others.

Games will be broadcast in The Lair, the popular pub and grill on the second floor of the Don and Karen DeRosa University Center. State-of-the-art technology was recently installed in the space, including a 16,000-Lumen Panasonic laser projector, 16-foot screen and six 70-inch 4K ultra high-definition video displays.

“Showing the road games at The Lair is yet another way for the Pacific community to support our student-athletes,” said Bradley Davis, women’s head basketball coach.

Added Rosie Schweizer ’24, a junior on the women’s basketball team: “Having the support of the fans both in-person and watching the games at the Lair is so important. They create an amazing atmosphere and supportive environment within the campus that helps us be at our best.”

The first watch party will be a doubleheader Feb. 4 with the women taking on Pepperdine at 1 p.m. followed by the men versus Brigham Young at 7 p.m.

The men’s team is coming off a close matchup against No. 6 Gonzaga Jan. 21. Fueled by five double-digit scorers, Pacific led most of the first half before narrowly losing in front of a near-capacity crowd at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The women’s basketball team also had a close game against Gonzaga, losing by three points in a hard-fought matchup Jan. 19.

The Lair has become a popular site to watch athletic events. Large crowds turned out in the fall semester to watch the men’s water polo team in postseason play, FIFA World Cup soccer and other contests.

Donte Miller, executive director of Campus Life, challenged students to keep the momentum. “We invite you to bring the same energy to support the men's and women's basketball teams in some of their marquee away games. Let's root on our Tigers now through March!” Miller said.

Additional watch parties will be scheduled for the West Coast Conference tournament March 2-7 once game dates and times are determined.
