With an etiology that we do not know exactly and many hypotheses trying to explain it, the diagnosis and treatment of the hypomineralized molars and incisors is a real challenge for dentists.There are various treatment alternatives, and the choice and proper management of each of them is a decision of the clinician and will depend on the behavior and clinical situation of the patient. Silva, DDS, MS, has been practicing pediatric dentistry for 38 years. She earned a DDS degree at Federal University of Goiás in Brazil. After completing her first pediatric dentistry residency and managing a private practice in Brazil, she moved to the U.S. in 2000 and completed a master’s degree and certificate in pediatric dentistry at University of Michigan. She joined University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2004 and was the residency program director of the Gainesville and the Naples programs. In 2011, she began her tenure at UCLA School of Dentistry and served as an associate clinical professor, chair and residency program director in the Section of Pediatric Dentistry. She has taught numerous CE courses in pediatric dentistry in the U.S. and abroad and has published research papers related to cariology, restorative dentistry, pulp therapy and dental trauma.
