Cherysse Lanns
At Pacific Since: 2020
Cherysse Lanns, AuD, FAAA, CCC-A, earned her bachelor of science in biology, with minors in health care and French, from Susquehanna University in 2006 and her doctor of audiology from University of Akron in 2010. She completed an audiology externship at Columbia University Medical Center.
Dr. Lanns is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the California Academy of Audiology. She is passionate about promoting the field of audiology and advocating for the hearing-impaired population.
What drew her to Pacific was the devotion of the faculty to their discipline and their dedication to innovative and evidence-based teaching. She also observed that Pacific is a community-oriented institution that values excellence in education and technology. She appreciates the ways the Department of Audiology serves students and patients with kindness and compassion, while maintaining the highest standard of methods and care.
Dr. Lanns knew from a young age that she wanted to work in health care. As an undergraduate student she had the opportunity to complete an internship at a local hospital, where she shadowed an audiologist. As she learned more about audiology, she came to appreciate the full breadth and variety of the profession. As an educator, she shares with her students the many facets of audiology; from clinical to school-based, from teaching to research and manufacturing.
In her role at Pacific, one of her ongoing goals is to support students as they take the concepts they learn in the classroom and apply those principles in a clinical setting. She strives to maintain a student-centered approach and foster independent critical thinking. Ultimately, she is committed to providing students a well-rounded education in audiological methods and care. She also advocates for collaboration between clinical preceptors and faculty.
She was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. She and her husband moved to California from Texas.

: “My priority for instructing doctor of audiology students is to provide a well-rounded education in audiological methods and care. It is important to engage students in order to impart excellence in the foundational concepts of hearing and the vestibular system, while providing efficient procedures built on evidence-based practice. I strive to teach students to be an advocate, resource and collaborator for patients and families who are managing hearing impairment. With these skills, students can enlighten patients with accurate knowledge, empower them to accept and own their hearing loss and assist them to effectively manage their disorder. Developing critical thinking skills is essential in my teachings and mentorship. To achieve this, I implement a combination of demonstration and facilitation. In clinical settings, I employ supervised guidance yet foster independence. My objective for clinical education is to create a safe learning environment that allows a student to develop skills toward autonomy by the end of their term.”
